Exhibition update
All,
We will be reviewing your portfolios tomorrow as discussed in preparation for the exhibition. If your portfolios are not already in the animation studio at Avery Hill Campus (in the south studio) please make sure that they are by tomorrow at 11am so that we can select work for the exhibition.
Slightly differently to what has been scheduled, we will now take the selected work and frames down to Maritime tomorrow afternoon and decide on a final layout ourselves. As such there will not be the need for the meeting at 3pm. Instead we will send a layout of the exhibition tomorrow afternoon so that you can begin fixing on Thursday. If useful, we could set-up a quick meeting on Thursday morning to discuss this. Aside from the work in frames we will need to fix the work with panel pins or similar. With enough numbers this should be achievable on Thursday. It would be helpful if the pins were bought in advance of Thursday.
Both Susanne and I will be working on First Year Exhibition and Simon on the Paper House, so please can you organise amongst yourselves who will be present on Thursday to setup the work.
For those who are worried about transportation and damage to work, I suggest you take the work down there yourselves. However please note that none of the spaces at the Maritime campus can be locked, so work is left there at your own risk. There is a prep space available, QA180 but again, no confirmations have been made regarding whether it will be locked. Access to the building is from 8:30am to 9:30pm
Finally and most importantly, for those currently involved in the Paper House construction, please remain as you are and as per your current schedules.

P.S I will post the unit text to be used for the exhibition space.

UnitSixteen and former DS14, Exhibit in
Bahrain’s 2013 Spring Festival of Culture.
IMAGINE: Fictional Architecture And
The Liberation of Ideas
As part of the annual spring
festival of culture in Bahrain, the Shaikh Ebrahim Centre presents “IMAGINE:
Fictional Architecture And The Liberation of Ideas” an exhibition of experimental architectural
drawings. With this show the centre continues its series of exhibitions
focusing on the world of architecture and design which started with the 2010
exhibition of Zaha Hadid’s design objects and paintings in Bin Matar House -
the first in the Gulf region.
Greenwich has a considerable
presence in this year’s exhibition, focusing for the first time on
architectural drawings.
"In
these projects of final year graduate students at some of Europe’s leading
architectural schools, these drawings and three dimensional objects find there
greatest sense of personal expression and liberty to explore fictional domains.
Prior to entering the world of real architecture, where illustrative and
technical drawings dominate, architecture students are free to create utopian
and imaginary projects." Melissa Enders-Bhatia Head of Art and
Exhibitions at the Shikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and
Research, Bahrain
United Nations Stratford City:
The foreground Image above was by Adis Dobardzic Diploma Unit16, 2012,
Conceived in a previous
era, the United Nations is re-imagined, geocentrically realigned to a shifting
world order along the meridian. A scene from the Anthropocene, this new landscape of the United Nations begins as a
flat sterile gridded surface, a multifunctional fertile plain with
architectural outcrops, moments of false geology.
Fluctuating sub
assemblies, immature buildings are prepared in advance, empathising with volatile
political events, new structures emerge with renewed stability, set against a
backdrop of such paradox.
Caught someplace between
construction, use, abandonment and renewal, these new monuments in the making,
are potent signifiers of delirious speculation, where history is continually
remade.
The exhibition was
designed and curated by Elke Frotscher and Florian Frotscher, suported by Simon Herron and Susanne Isa, work exhibited was
from The Bartlett, University of Greenwich, Oxford Brookes and University of
Westminster graduates.
Those former unit Sixteeners and DS14 exhibited also include . . .
Meor Haris Bahrin , Luke
Chandresinghe, Michael Dean, Mark Hatter, Sun Hwang, Jinhyuk Ko, Gill Lambert, Christopher Leung, Jorg Majer, Tania Okpa, Pernilla
Ohrstedt, Yumi Saito, Matthew Wilkinson, Nick Szczepaniak
