Task 2: Atlas [City Guide]
SUMMARY:

To date you have been developing individual readings of Stratford City.
Shortly you will be asked to apply these interests against a formal architectural project. First year students will be issued a formal brief on a given site, year 2+3 students will be asked to develop their own thesis project. These initial studies were our first explorations into the urban and cultural context of site. As we move forward you will need to examine critically more orthodox readings of site measured against your earlier considerations.

This will form the foundation for Cities and Landscape [Yr1] and Site + Briefing [Yr2+3].

Crit - Wednesday
You were asked to reflect on your initial photographic recording of site, as a form of SITE SURVEY. Considering these captured stills, as fragments, out-tacks, sub components of a time based section through an imaginary future; slices of time and space where new meanings and new readings can be discovered and represented.

These drawings were conceived of as dissections along an imaginary horizontal axis, stretching deep into the projected depth of field of the image, forming a imaginary projection plain. Like Alice looking through the looking glass, you turn your gaze into this strange field, time may move in reverse, gravity may prove sticky, strange forces of distortion are experienced… spaces and artifacts may be incomplete.

For Wednesday you are each to complete this stage of the project as these findings will be essential for framing the principle building project of the year will be introduced after the crit of Wednesday.

Reminder:
  1. You are to represent all work to date. You may chose to re-do some of your earlier pieces in light of more recent work as your interests have become clearer.

  1. Replace [Psycho-geographic] with MANUFACTURED DRAWING,
preparing at least THREE [min A1]

  1. Prepare at least THREE Viewpoints taken across these drawings

In addition to these each of you has been encouraged to develop a range of speculative pieces, which aim to reveal a set of specific strategies towards developing an individual architecture position. It’ imperative that you consider when your work is to be set, Now, 10 years, 25 years . . . . . into the future.
